More often than not new clothing comes in from season to season, typically with a few extra features that may or may not have a dramatic effect on its performance and with some minor design changes very much in keeping with a particular brand. Because of this (again) on most occasions when out in a new jersey for example, it goes un-noticed.
Regular readers will know we have always favoured Shutt VR products in previous views so when we received the new Isobel Ladies Jersey in the post our female testers started to get excited.
The first thing you notice about this jersey is the style. Designed by Lucy Gardner this is one jersey that has sparked comment from just about everyone we’ve shown it to, and all of it positive. With such a bold design the jersey always going to divide opinion to a certain extent however we’d say this is one of the best ladies jersey designs we’ve seen in a very long time.
So big tick on the style front but what’s it like quality wise? Well we have reviewed a number of Shutt items from the men’s range previously and they’ve always been the equal of anything from any price range so we know in general the company produces excellent quality clothing. If pushed we’d actually say the quality of the Isobel Jersey is a level above anything we’ve been sent before. It really is a lovely jersey and whilst we’ve only had it a few weeks so longevity is yet to be proven, we have no concerns at all.
Features wise there are a lot of good points as well from the waterproof (not tested) zipped back central pocket to the neck and waist fabric zip end covers to the mesh side panels, this jersey isn’t left wanting for anything. It’s hard to think of anything else you could do to be honest without adding features that have no real use.
One thing to point out is that although a short sleeved jersey, the Isobel is made of slightly thicker material so we’d say on those really hot rides it could get a bit warm. As always that really depends on the individual and as yet it hasn’t been noticed on our warmer rides so perhaps we are underestimating the breathability of the jersey. At this time of year with Autumn fast approaching this is another bonus and add a sleeveless baselayer and some arm warmers and you really are going to remain comfy when other light summer jersey’s are getting out of their comfort zone.
Shutt claim the fit is designed to flatter all body sizes. Our tester is a size 8 and wears the Extra Small so we can’t comment on how it looks on other sizes but during our tests the fit has proved excellent in all areas with the right amount of drop at the back and support where it’s needed.
Really we can’t find anything to fault this jersey on. If you like the design (and we do – a lot) then this should be the next short sleeved jersey you buy. It’s simply a brilliant piece of ladies cycle clothing.
If you prefer something a bit less noticeable then perhaps look elsewhere.
